Time to put that high-powered smartphone in your pocket to some good (and fun) use.
Download a free app called “Waze” and take part in this social mapping project. Drive around with the app running, and you’ll help map out the roads in your area, to build up an accurate map of the UK. You’ll share road data with others, and can see data from others – such as average road speed, speed taps and accident flashes you can even share a photo of an accident for others in your area to see.
There’s a fun element too – catch points for munching local roads, pick up bonus points along the way, and if you’re serious about maps – go home and fix a few road errors on your laptop web browser. Good fun, and oddly additive, warm and fuzzy…
Waze is available for a selection of smartphones that have GPS built-in, including the iPhone, Android phones, some Nokia Symbian phones and Windows Mobile devices.
If you’ve got an iPhone, get the app from the App Store – otherwise, hop over to www.waze.com
Come on gang… get driving!
